The Ceramic View Symposium in Bangkok
The Ceramic View Symposium is an international ceramic art symposium in South East Asia, to be organised in Bangkok in 2016. It is first of its kind in the region. The symposium is set to promote modern ceramic art and showcase the creative process involved in the art of pottery in Thailand, and beyond. Local, regional and international ceramic artists are invited to participate.
Through the symposium, the partners, benefactors and the general public, will be able to observe and interact with the artists and witness the creative processes of art in a way that traditionally is not on display to the public. We believe that witnessing the creative process of artists is one of the most valuable aspects of art. This symposium gives a platform to the audience to go behind the scenes and understand and appreciate modern art of craft making in a memorable, sustainable and interesting way.
*The concept Ceramic View derives from an old practice where artists invited people to view their art before showing it to the general public. The Ceramic View Symposium is an effort to bring this concept to the 21st century, to make it more participatory and open.
International Ceramic Art Symposium
Ceramic symposiums have been organised for decades across the world to the delight of art lovers, artists, students and the international ceramic community – springing new talent to the forefront and showcasing the multifaceted nature of pottery.
With the Ceramic View Symposium we wish to emphasise the social benefits of art and how creativity in arts can have a broad and positive impact on society. We wish to take the symposium to a social level where we can see the creative process of the artists and bring the artists closer to the audience.
Public events, lectures, workshops for the public and discussions are an integral part of the symposium. Around 15 artists from around the world will participate, and artists from Thailand and the South East Asia region are particularly invited to attend.
The Ceramic View team have organised multiple ceramic symposiums and workshops in arts and architecture. The Arctic Ceramic Centre in Finnish Lapland and other symposiums in Korea and Taiwan are recent symposiums where over 100 artists have participated.

Who is coordinating?
The symposium in Bangkok is overseen by Kullstrom/Park Ltd. and Chulalongkorn University, together with Suku Park, IAC.
Partnering with organisations and social causes
We hope to partner with local organisations set to better the lives of the people, particularly those previously lacking access to art in their communities. Through joint events we wish to create stronger ties between the art community and the local population as we believe this will have a durable and positive effect on both participating artists and the local community who will host the symposium.
From the Organisers
The strength of ceramic art is that it is a tight-knit community of artists who regularly meet and work together, despite the very individual nature of their craft.
The concept of working together in one room, sharing kiln time, and being open about ones calling, passion, and the creative process and work methods is one of the reasons why the oldest art form is still relevant today. The symposiums are important to showcase the art form, but also is a vessel that represents and exhibits creativity, inspiration and innovation from start to finish.
