Hansaram has opened its artist residency and gallery building in Posio, Lapland, ready to welcome artists, writers, poets, and researchers to our artist residency program. This sanctuary promises tranquillity, rest, and inspiration to our visitors, situated over the vast landscapes of the Finnish Lapland, by the Arctic Circle.

You can now make an inquiry for the artist residency, as well as book your private stay at the residency. We run art retreats for groups that you can also sign up for on our booking page.

Hansaram is a cooperative dedicated to premium artist residency programs and unique art retreats through celebrating ceramic art and highlighting its contemporary significance in society. Led by the esteemed Korean ceramic artist, Suku Park, Hansaram finds its home in Posio, Lapland (Finland).

The aim of our residency programs and retreats is to strengthen the growing community of people seeking to return to more tactile and gentle ways of expressing their creativity.

Private stays & retreats

Our artist residency programs and creative retreat events are open to non-artists, outdoor and art/design enthusiasts, allowing anyone to join the retreats and stay at the residency through referrals, invitations and online bookings.

Questions and answers

Find answers to the most frequently asked questions about Hansaram and our work.

  • Yes, we welcome private stays at the Hansaram Artist Residency and Gallery building. You can book your stay through our online application form.

  • When we organise ceramic retreats in Posio, participants stay at our partner hotel and studio in Posio.

    Hansaram’s residency building accommodates only our private stay and artist residency program visitors.

    During our Posio retreats however, partcipants have the opportunity to visit and ‘hang out’ at the residency building.

  • Hansaram at the moment doesn’t provide direct grants to artists. We help out with artist/personal grant applications with necessary documentation when required.

  • Yes, and no.

    During the darker season, October to March, chances are higher to see the Northern Lights but it all depends on the cloud coverage and what the sun is up to that particular evening. When the conditions are right, you might see Aurora Borealis but you have to stay up late though.

  • As we run a small operation around the artist residency programs, retreats and private stays, our pricing depends on the number of participants/guests, which time of the year it is and for how long the program lasts. You can always find out the final price by asking us, and filling out the online form.

  • The Hansaram Gallery in Posio is open during select hours. If you would like to visit the gallery, please inform us a few days beforehand to welcome you.

    Admission fee: 8 euros/person.

  • Generally, from November to March, the weather is freezing and can go all the way down to -30 degrees Celsius. Summer months are warmer, at around 8 to 25 degrees Celsius.

A place of tranquility, solitude and quietude.

The Posio artist residency, Hansaram House, is a place for rest, recuperation, work and inspiration. Built in timber with minimal use of harmful construction chemicals, the house is powered ecologically with its interior handcrafted with great intention and love.

Visit us in Posio

Hansaram Artist Residency and Gallery is located in Posio, Finland. A 50 min drive from Kuusamo Airport and 1h 50 min drive from Rovaniemi (airport/train station). If you’re visiting us without your own car, we suggest you reach out to us for ground transportation options. There are taxi services in Posio and the occasional bus service operates between Kuusamo, Rovaniemi and Taivalkoski.

The gallery space is open upon request and select hours, with regular displays of our permanent exhibition and seasonal art exhibitions by local and international artists.

Suku Park

Suku Park, b 1947, a world renowned ceramic artist and chair of Hansaram, started his international career in Posio, Finland, and has since exhibited in multiple cities with his artwork featuring in various prominent art collections, such as the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, The Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and Musée Ariana in Geneva.
